Movie Evaluations:

  • CinemaSerf: You is perhaps extra forgiving of this if you’re a fan of Chris Rock’s quick-paced, fast-pondering banter. In case you are not then it actually can border on the puerile at instances. The premiss sees Rock (“Jake”) recruited by worldly CIA man “Oakes” (Sir Anthony Hopkins) after his twin brother is killed. Other than the truth that “Jake” didn’t even know he had a brother, not to mention that he was an agent, he’s not an particularly courageous younger man who tends to let his mouth do a lot of the work – so off we go into the murky and threatening world of terrorists bent on killing his fiancée and destroying New York. It’s all fairly formulaic stuff – pyrotechnics, shoot ’em ups, secret codes and so on. – with Hopkins standing round more often than not chewing on a toothpick trying about as disinterested at I quickly turned. A few of Rock’s retorts are fairly amusing, however at two hours the story wears too skinny too rapidly and there may be little, if any, chemistry between the 2 on the high of the invoice. The consequences are fairly normal, as is the plot and although it’s watchable sufficient, it’s actually not remotely memorable.
